The strong military presence in San Diego means that servicemen and women are always on our minds. Our city pays tribute to veterans with these events for Veterans Day November 11, 2017.
This year's Veterans Day parade takes its theme as "A Tribute To Heros At Home". There'll be floats, bands, and a tribute to World War II veterans. You can enjoy the parade as it proceeds along the harborfront.
There'll be lots of Veterans Day activities at the USS Midway Museum; the Midway is a veteran herself, serving in the navy for 47 years and seeing action in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. Veterans Day events at the museum include entertainment and a KidsZone. Be sure to explore the shipboard museum to see what life aboard was like, from crew quarters to the galley and brig, and well as check out the aircraft on deck.
Learn more about military history at the Veterans Museum, one of dozens of museums in Balboa Park. The artifacts are linked to military action as far back as the Civil War. There's more military history at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, also in Balboa Park. The collection includes military planes and helicopters, and you can get a taste of action in the aerial combat flight simulator.
