Last year's Balboa Park December Nights in San Diego drew 345,000 people. That's nothing to sneeze at. And this year's 35th annual event, which takes place December 6 & 7, is sure to bring in just as many folks if not more. So, what's the attraction? Actually, the question should be, what's the attractions? There are a bundle of them. The largest free community festival in San Diego offers attendees the chance to experience food from around the world at the International Christmas Festival at the House of Pacific Relations Cottages. The Santa Lucia Procession at the Plaza de California is another big draw. The work of artisans of Spanish Village are on display and available for purchase.
Entertainment is in no short supply, either. Discover highly-polished musical and dance presentations from a wide array of talented groups, including the San Diego Junior Theatre, Del Cerro Baptist's Christmas Story Tree, and the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet. As an added bonus, several museums in Balboa Park will allow guests to enter for free from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on both nights the festival is on.
While you're there, you can shop for unique items in the museum's gift shops. Another fun aspect is the Engagement Ring Contest, sponsored by Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers. The winner will receive a Hearts On Fire engagement ring and an opportunity to propose to his or her beloved in front of the huge crowds at December Nights.
