Art San Diego 2016
Find out what’s happening in the contemporary art world at Art San Diego 2016, happening from November 3 – 6. The show features the latest in painting, sculpture, photography, glass, and more.
Opening Night
Come early for the first preview events, including the unveiling of two new works. One will be the final work in a project that transforms commercial billboards into public art displays. The second will be a project made of the most intangible medium, light. Jazz music, wine, and hors d’oeuvres make it a festive outing.
Show Events
During the rest of the week, visitors to the show will enjoy the works of art and have the chance to meet the artists. They’ll demonstrate their unique creative methods and talk about their inspirations.
Special Programs
Special programs at Art San Diego include the Art Labs projects. This year’s events draw on audio as well as visual media to create works that you experience, not just see. A highlight is the Launchpad Program, designed to boost the visibility of a talented, unheralded emerging artist.
Balboa Park and Art
The show takes place in the Balboa Park Activity Center. Balboa Park is home to several of San Diego’s art museums, including the Museum of Photographic Arts, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Timken Museum of Art; you can fill entire days with art by combining Art San Diego with visits to the museums.
Island Palms is just a few miles from Balboa Park, located in a beautiful setting of its own. With waterfront views, a stay at the Best Western Plus Island Palms combined with visits to Art San Diego and our museums means your days will be filled with beauty from the moment you open your eyes ’til you close them again at night.
