There’s always something exciting going on in San Diego’s hippest ‘hoods, and Point Loma is no exception. Our enclave is known for buzzy events and festivals, as well as major natural events, such as the annual whale migration. Here are a few of the upcoming local happenings to look forward to.
Whale-Watching Season
If you’ve ever longed to see whales up close, you’re in luck — during mid-December through April, you can take a three-hour tour past these gentle giants during their southern journey, to the calving lagoons of Baja, or as they return to the Bering Sea. Experienced captains will shuttle you around the protected marine sanctuary in a comfortable vessel certified by the U.S. Coast Guard, pointing out the creatures as they pass.

Schooner Cup 2020
The 32nd annual Schooner Cup charity race, this year on March 28, will see some of the area’s most elegant traditional vessels racing from Shelter Island through San Diego Bay. Among them will be the 142-ft. Californian, a replica of a ship from 1847 and winner of the 2019 Schooner Cup.

Crew Classic 2020
During the San Diego Crew Classic, one of America’s largest regattas and a particularly iconic local event, you can choose between participating in one of the heats or hanging by the sidelines. Spectators will be rewarded with treats from the food court and beer garden, and can enjoy the crowds loudly cheering for their favorite vessel.
Gator by the Bay 2020
Gator by the Bay brings New Orleans to San Diego. You’ll find musicians performing music by Cajun and zydeco bands like The Revelers and musicians like Bob Stone, dance lessons in genres like swing and square dancing, and a food court serving cornbread, jambalaya, pralines, and more — along with Thai, Jamaican, and French fare.

SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival 2020
The Seven Seas Food Fest at SeaWorld includes live performances alongside the namesake food and drink. Dishes centered around local, sustainable ingredients will be paired with craft beers and wines. Optional Taster Sampler cards will allow you to further upgrade your event experience.
