A quiet place to enjoy the first hints of spring, Shelter Island is marked by tranquil skyline, bike routes, and very little of the noise that’s found in other parts of the city. Read on for the best things to do on Shelter Island, San Diego, plus some ideas for day trips further afield.

Bike Rides

Whether you want to go farther out into Point Loma or are just looking for a short spin around Shelter Island, you can look forward to a pleasant ride.

Fishing

If you and your family love the calm of fishing, Shelter Island has just the place for you. The Shelter Island Pier is a scenic point to take in the views and cast lines for a variety of species, including bonito, barracuda, calico bass, halibut and more. The Pier is open from 6 AM-10:30 PM, and no fees are required.

Playground

A great option for families with kids, this is also totally free. There are several slides, a swing set, and a climbing structure, plus the views of the water. Take it easy while the kids play, and don’t forget to bring your sunscreen.
