The Best Sunsets in San Diego

Fall is the perfect time to snap those stunning San Diego sunset shots. With no shortage of sites to choose from, you can watch the sunset in a different spot every day of your vacation! So pack a picnic, grab your camera (or phone!), and head out to some of our favorite spots to watch the sun sink below the ocean.

Sunset Cliffs (3 miles away)

The appropriately named Sunset Cliffs provides gorgeous views of the sun dipping below the horizon. The Point Loma spot is a favorite for locals and tourists alike, and it’s not hard to see why! Bring along a picnic and make sure to arrive early to grab the best spot. Keep an eye out for the elusive green flash — a cosmic phenomenon which is known to happen here!

Ocean Beach Pier (4 miles away)

Ocean Beach Pier is the largest pier on the west coast, making it perfect for fishing and enjoying panoramic ocean vistas! Get there early to cast out a line or check out the tide pools before finding a spot to enjoy the stunning sunset views.

Embarcadero (5 miles away)

Situated next to San Diego Bay, the Embarcadero is a great spot to hang out during the day, as well as the golden hour. Enjoy the maritime museums, fresh seafood, and many shops before grabbing a spot to watch the main event.

Sunset Point Park does not disappoint! Situated next to our sister hotel The Dana on Mission Bay, the park features fire pits and picnic tables — making it ideal to enjoy take out or make s’mores while watching the sun go down.

Bird Rock (9 miles away)

A popular spot for surfers during the day, Bird Rock is one of the best spots to catch a stunning sunset! The eclectic neighborhood features a variety of small businesses and restaurants to grab a bite from before heading to the waterfront to enjoy the views.

Dine, shop, and play at the Coronado Ferry Landing and stay late to watch otherworldly sunsets. Plan to visit on the weekend and enjoy live music while watching the sun sink below the horizon of the Pacific.

Windansea Beach (11 miles away)

The unique rock formations dotting the surf, the low-tide patches of sand, and of course the epic sunsets make Windansea Beach feel like a dream. While the rocks make the beach less-than-ideal for swimming, it’s great for surfing and sunset-gazing!
