Extreme Sailing Series – Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina
Pacific breezes welcome the Extreme Sailing Series to San Diego 10/19-22. Here’s how to watch the races and experience the wind in your face.
The race is part of an international series of eight sailing events, making its first appearance in San Diego. Competitors sail GC32 catamarans, equipped with hydrofoils that give the boats their extreme speed and making them fly as much as sail.
Because the courses are short, each race is just 10-12 minutes, leading to lots of exciting action. Courses vary in design, and there’s an umpire out on the water to make sure everyone follows the rules.
Viewers can watch the San Diego sailing event free from the Harbor Island Race Village. There’ll be beer gardens, food, and music, making a fun afternoon for everyone! VIP packages get you closer to the action, with special viewing platforms and even the chance to participate as a Guest Sailor on one of the boats.
Come early to the event and stay late to also take in the Extreme San Diego Kiteboard Invitational; riders will compete before and after the GC32s take the course.
