Holidays in San Diego
San Diego is full of holiday cheer. Yes, this is the happiest time of the year! Things may be a little different for everyone this year, and we are seeing more virtual events popping up but the holiday cheer is abundant regardless. Whether you are tuning in from home or during your winter stay at the Best Western PLUS Island Palms Hotel & Marina, here’s everything going on this holiday season in San Diego.
Holiday Shows
It isn’t Christmas without the Nutcracker. Enjoy a pop-up drive-in event this year to ensure social distancing measures are in place. Another local favorite is the classic holiday tale, How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe Theater. This year The Grinch will be broadcasted audio only via the radio to keep health and safety at the top of the priority list.
Holiday Parades
Head to the Ocean Beach Holiday Parade (event TBD), located just 10 minutes from our hotel, to watch Santa arrive in the surfers’ paradise. The cliffside village La Jolla Christmas Parade and Holiday Festival has floats and equestrians in addition to marching bands and vintage cars, and of course, Santa.
Holiday Lights
You’ll find beautiful holiday lights throughout San Diego county, including in nearby Point Loma. There are the “official” lights on Christmas trees like you’ll find in Little Italy during their annual Christmas Tree Lighting which will be a virtual event this year, but hop in your car and drive through San Diego neighborhoods to see the creativity our community brings to lighting their homes.

Did you leave your holiday shopping for the last minute? San Diego shopping options include high-end boutiques, bargains at outlet shops, and unique finds in local boutiques.
