New Year’s Resolutions: San Diego Style
San Diego is a brilliant place to kick off the new year: Along with hosting a spectacular fireworks show on December 31, it boasts heaps of restaurants, athletic venues, and cultural attractions to help you get started on your new year’s resolutions. Don’t believe us? Check out the list below.
Eat Healthy
If you resolved to eat healthy this year, you’ve come to the right city — SoCal boasts one of America’s largest populations of vegans, and there are amazing restaurants for those on special diets. Order takeout from counter-service venues like Tender Greens and Local Greens, or spring for a memorable sit-down meal at local favorite Café Gratitude.

Exercise More
There are so many ways to up your workout game in 2020 in San Diego. We recommend kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding with some help from the pros at OEX Point Loma, who will take you to venues such as Bali Hai and Humphreys around San Diego Bay. Alternatively, give wakesurfing or yoga a try. Check out SurfThirty, whose instructors guarantee that you’ll stand on your board within the first 30 minutes of your lesson, or Yoga Arts, which offers Hatha and Iyengar classes.

Experience More Culture
There’s so much local culture to discover, so start with some of the renowned museums in Balboa Park. The Timken Museum displays art from around the Americas and Europe (and is always free), while the Museum of Man explores anthropology and human history from caveman times and ancient civilizations to the present. The San Diego Natural History Museum is another fascinating stop, with exhibitions focusing on wildlife, gemology, and more.

Watch Live Music
Catch live music at Humphreys, our sister resort on Shelter Island, which hosts rock, funk, and soul acts at the intimate venue Backstage LIVE! There’s also the Humphreys Concerts by the Bay series, from April through October, with a wide variety of music and comedy sets in the property’s 1,400-seat outdoor theater. During concert season, our very own Blue Wave Bar & Grill serves a special concert menu so that you can grab dinner before heading down the road to the show. Elsewhere, the live rock and jazz music at Old Venice Restaurant and Point Loma Concert Series on Friday nights are two other options for music lovers.
