There’s just something about the West Coast that inspires renewal. Maybe it’s the perfect year-round weather, the sunshine, or the abundance of opportunities for self-improvement. Regardless of the reason, San Diego is a brilliant place to kick off the new year. “America’s Finest City” is home to lots of fantastic restaurants, athletic activities, and cultural attractions to help you get started. Need some fun New Year’s resolution ideas? Check out the list below.

Eat Healthier

If you resolved to eat healthy this year, you’ve come to the right city — SoCal is the place to be for overhauling your diet. We have a large population of vegans and vegetarians, and there are amazing restaurants to accommodate them, as well as other specialized diets. So why not order takeout from counter-service venues like Tender Greens and Local Greens, or spring for a memorable sit-down meal at local health-focused favorites Café Gratitude, Parakeet Café, or Trilogy Sanctuary? Your energy levels will thank you.

  • Tender Greens — (2.5 miles from the hotel) 2400 Historic Decatur Rd Suite 104, San Diego, CA 92106
  • Local Greens — (3 miles away) 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106

Increase your Exercise Regimen

There are so many ways to up your workout game in 2022 in San Diego. We recommend kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding with some help from the pros at Disco’s Paddle Surf, who can get you introduced to these fun fitness activities at great spots around San Diego Bay. Alternatively, you can give wakesurfing or yoga a try. Check out Mission Bay Aquatic Center (which offers classes from beginner to advanced) or Point Loma’s YogaSix, where everything from low-impact Slow Flow to intense Hot Yoga is on the menu.

Become a Culture Aficionado

There’s so much local culture to discover in San Diego. We recommend starting with some of the renowned museums in Balboa Park (5.4 miles from the hotel). The Timken Museum displays art from around the Americas and Europe (and is always free), while the Museum of Us explores anthropology and human history from the caveman era and ancient civilizations to the present. The San Diego Natural History Museum is another fascinating stop, with exhibitions focusing on wildlife, gemology, and more.

Take in Some Live Music

There’s no better place to catch live music than Humphreys Half Moon Inn — our sister resort just half a mile away — which hosts rock, funk, and soul acts at the intimate venue Humphreys Backstage LIVE. There’s also the Humphreys Concerts by the Bay series from April through October, which offers a wide variety of music and comedy sets in the property’s 1,400-seat outdoor amphitheater. During concert season, our very own Blue Wave Bar & Grill serves a special events menu so that you can grab dinner before heading to the show.

Travel More

Why not get started on your travel resolutions with some local beach-hopping? From the classic boardwalk at Mission Beach to the soft sands of La Jolla Shores Beach to surfer hub Ocean Beach, our stunning shores can lay claim to some of the best beaches in the state. Check out a handy guide from our friends at Humphreys here. San Diego is also home to more than 100 unique neighborhoods, each with its own distinct vibe and personality.
