Things to Do on San Diego Bay – Best Western Plus Island Palms

San Diego Bay is a spectacular backdrop for many of the best activities and attractions in San Diego. There are more than 30 miles of waterfront, dotted with marinas, shops, restaurants, and more. Spend your day strolling along the shore or out on the water. Here’s a guide to the best of our harbors.

The Embarcadero

Head to the Embarcadero for a walk in the sun and a chance to explore the history of the sea. Piers here are home to the floating Maritime Museum and the USS Midway Museum, letting you contrast the technology of ships driven by the wind and ships driven by modern technology. Harbor cruises let you take in the dramatic San Diego skyline from the water. When you get hungry, Little Italy, home to many up-and-coming eateries, is nearby.

Coronado

Most people refer to Coronado as an island, but it’s actually a peninsula. Explore Coronado and experience one of San Diego’s nicest beaches, or rent a bike to pedal down the boardwalk. You can drive across the famed Coronado Bridge, or take a scenic ferry ride to get there. Hotel Del Coronado, built in 1888, is a National Historic Landmark and a favorite tourist spot.

Imperial Beach

If a day at the beach means more than just lying in the sun to you, head to Imperial Beach. You’ll find surfing, fishing, volleyball, and horseback riding. Come in the afternoon and linger on the pier to watch the sun set over the Pacific.

Shelter Island

Shelter Island, home to Best Western Plus Island Palms, has paths for strolling and biking along the water. Many fishing trips depart from the docks here, and the entire neighborhood, including restaurants, wears a nautical theme. This quiet waterfront neighborhood is perfect for a peaceful, romantic escape.
